The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission have tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 4.25 percent. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at 780 Barber Street, Snipes Water Resource Center on May 4, 2017 at 5:30 p.m.
Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are City Hall (Commission Chamber), 301 College Avenue on May 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. and at City Hall (Commission Chamber), 301 College Avenue on June 6, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.
This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 13.95 mills, an increase of 0.569 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 13.381 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $175,000 is approximately $34.14 and the proposed tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $225,000 is approximately $51.21.
